Hurricane Rafael weakens after Cuba landfall and slows in Gulf of Mexico
Hurricane Rafael made landfall in Cuba as a Category 3 storm but has since weakened to a Category 2 with winds of 105 mph. It is now moving northwest at 9 mph and is expected to slow down in the coming days. Louisiana and other Gulf Coast states are no longer in the storm's projected path. While low-to-moderate coastal flooding is possible, significant impacts are not anticipated for these areas. A separate low-pressure system is affecting the northern Leeward Islands, bringing heavy rain and thunderstorms. This system has a 20% chance of developing further as it moves westward toward the Greater Antilles.
