Hyderabad identifies 141 flood-prone areas for monsoon preparations

HYDRAA has identified 141 areas in Hyderabad that are prone to flooding as the monsoon season approaches. The organization has reviewed the current flood mitigation measures in place. Officials plan to use advanced technology to clear debris from stormwater drains. This will help ensure that water flows freely in culverts, drains, and catchment areas. They will also map catchment areas to help guide excess rainwater into nearby lakes. To manage potential traffic issues and road blockages, committees will be formed across the city. In a review meeting, HYDRAA commissioner AV Ranganath and GHMC commissioner K Ilambarithi stressed the importance of working together to tackle challenges linked to the monsoon. They also talked about preventing fire hazards and strategies to reduce risks. A special committee is being created with officials from HYDRAA, GHMC, and the fire department. This committee will look into fire-prone areas, understand the causes of frequent incidents, and promote awareness to minimize risks. Regular inspections will be held to ensure that local residents and businesses follow safety regulations. Zonal committees will address specific flood concerns in their areas. The commissioners highlighted the need for a strong accountability system to effectively prevent both flooding and fire risks.
