Hyderabad lawmakers seek job security for Gopala Mitras
Several lawmakers from the ruling Congress party and other political groups have asked the government to secure jobs for "Gopala Mitras." These animal husbandry workers have supported livestock health in the state for 24 years. During a legislative assembly meeting, B. Ilaiah from Congress highlighted that around 1,530 Gopala Mitras travel to multiple villages each day to address livestock health issues. He recalled a promise made by the party to provide these workers with job security. Ilaiah proposed that some Gopala Mitras could fill open positions in the agriculture department. He suggested raising their monthly pay from ₹1,150 to ₹24,000. Other members, including K. Sambasiva Rao from CPI and K. Shankaraiah from Congress, echoed these calls for better pay and job stability. Minister for Agriculture Tummala Nageswara Rao responded that the government would look into the proposals made by the lawmakers.
