Hyderabad students protest land auction, defend heritage
Students at Hyderabad Central University protested against the Telangana government's plan to auction 400 acres of university land, including the culturally significant Mushroom Rock. The protest, held on March 13, drew a large crowd and emphasized the community's commitment to preserving their heritage. The Hyderabad Central University Students’ Union organized the protest, which included speeches criticizing the government's actions as a "land grab disguised as development." Students planted saplings and displayed banners to assert their ownership of the land. In response to the protest, a Joint Action Committee was formed to negotiate with university administration and pursue legal action to halt the auction. The protest highlighted the unity of the HCU community in defending their land rights.
