A 46-year-old homemaker from Hyderabad lost ₹2.19 lakh in a credit card scam. She was tricked by someone pretending to be a bank representative. The cybercrime unit of the Hyderabad police has started an investigation into the incident. The scam began when the victim received a call from an unknown number. The caller claimed her Credit Card Protection Plan was about to be deactivated. He told her to open her banking app to update her information. When she couldn't find the right options, the scammer told her to use Google Chrome. Trusting his instructions, she entered her credit card details. Soon after, the fraudster accessed her mobile phone and began making unauthorized transactions on her ICICI and American Express credit cards. Realizing she had been scammed, the victim quickly reported the issue to ICICI Bank and filed an online complaint to recover her lost money. In response, the police have issued a public warning. They advised people not to share credit or debit card information, PINs, OTPs, or passwords with anyone. Banks and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) do not ask for sensitive details over phone calls or through third-party links.
