I-80 crossover plan eases truck traffic during repairs
State transportation officials have announced a plan to keep truck traffic moving on Interstate 80. This comes as repairs are made for a sinkhole in Wharton, which has closed all eastbound lanes since February 10. In two weeks, a crossover will be ready for eastbound traffic. It will let some vehicles use a westbound lane to get around the construction area. This means that trucks and other large vehicles can stay on I-80, avoiding detours and alternate routes. Officials from the Department of Transportation say the crossover will help reduce congestion. They are finalizing designs and expect the construction to start soon. The goal is to make travel easier for commercial vehicles during the repair work.
