Ian Bailey names three suspects in Sophie Toscan du Plantier murder before his death
Ian Bailey, the main suspect in the 1996 murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier, named three other potential suspects in interviews before his death. He maintained his innocence, claiming he never met Toscan and suggesting that someone else was responsible for her death. Bailey identified one suspect as a foreign man who lived in West Cork and took his own life years after the murder. He described another as an elderly man who had a history of breaking into Toscan's cottage. The third suspect was reportedly seen following her on the day she disappeared. Bailey was previously arrested twice but never charged due to insufficient evidence. A French court convicted him in absentia in 2019, but Ireland refused to extradite him. He died from a heart attack in January 2024.
