ICC issues arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Hamas chief over Gaza conflict
The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif, accusing them of war crimes. The warrants include allegations of starvation and crimes against humanity related to the Gaza conflict. The ICC also issued a warrant for Yoav Gallant, Israel's former defense minister. The court claims that Netanyahu and Gallant intentionally deprived Gaza civilians of essential supplies, impacting humanitarian aid efforts from October 2023 to May 2024. Two additional warrants for Hamas leaders were withdrawn after their reported deaths. The ICC's jurisdiction is contested by Israel, which has not ratified the Rome Statute that established the court.
