ICC issues arrest warrants for Netanyahu, Gallant, and Deif for alleged war crimes
The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif. The warrants are for alleged crimes against humanity and war crimes committed since October 2023. This development restricts Netanyahu's movement, as ICC member countries are required to arrest him if he enters their territory. The warrants were previously classified as secret to protect witnesses but were made public due to ongoing conduct related to the charges. The ICC's chief prosecutor had requested these warrants amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza, which escalated after Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. The war has resulted in significant casualties on both sides, with over 44,000 reported deaths in Gaza.
