ICC issues arrest warrants for Netanyahu, Gallant and Hamas chief Deif over Gaza war crimes
The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity related to the Gaza conflict. The ICC rejected Israel's challenges to its jurisdiction, stating that the warrants are linked to actions from October 8, 2023, to May 20, 2024. The court claims Netanyahu and Gallant intentionally deprived Gaza's civilian population of essential resources. The warrants come amid a high death toll in Gaza, exceeding 44,000, following Israel's military response to Hamas attacks on October 7. Israel and the U.S. do not recognize the ICC's authority, but the warrants could affect the officials' travel in many countries.
