ICC president criticizes US and Russia for threats against court operations
The president of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Judge Tomoko Akane, criticized the U.S. and Russia for threatening the court's operations. She described recent attacks as "appalling" during the ICC's annual meeting in The Hague. U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham called the ICC a "dangerous joke" and suggested sanctions against those who support it, following the court's decision to issue arrest warrants for Israeli leaders. Russia has also issued warrants against ICC officials in response to investigations into President Putin. The ICC faces internal challenges, including allegations against its chief prosecutor, Karim Khan. Despite these issues, Khan announced plans to pursue new investigations, including potential crimes in Afghanistan and Myanmar.
