Iceland volcano erupts for tenth time in three years prompting village evacuation
A volcanic fissure near Grindavik, Iceland, erupted for the tenth time in three years, leading to the evacuation of the fishing village. The eruption, which occurred late Wednesday, was less intense than previous ones. The Icelandic Meteorological Office reported that the eruption sent red lava and smoke into the air. While infrastructure remains safe, authorities evacuated Grindavik, known for the nearby Blue Lagoon spa. Most of Grindavik's 4,000 residents had already relocated due to earlier volcanic activity. The region has experienced increased seismic activity since March 2021, marking a new phase of volcanic eruptions.
