Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula volcano erupts for seventh time in a year
A volcano on Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula erupted for the seventh time since December, starting late Wednesday. The eruption created a fissure about three kilometers long and sent lava flowing towards the Blue Lagoon spa, a popular tourist site. This eruption is smaller than the previous one in August. Authorities have evacuated around 50 houses and guests at the Blue Lagoon due to gas emissions, but there is no threat to air travel. Lava has reached the geothermal spa's parking lot and a service building, but infrastructure is designed to withstand such flows. The nearby town of Grindavík, previously evacuated, remains under observation but is not currently in danger.
