Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula volcano erupts for seventh time this year
A volcano on Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula erupted for the seventh time since December, starting late Wednesday. The new fissure is about 3 kilometers long and is smaller than the previous eruptions in August and May. Authorities evacuated around 50 houses in the nearby town of Grindavík due to gas emissions. The Civil Protection agency issued alerts, but the eruption does not threaten air travel. The repeated eruptions have damaged local infrastructure and forced some residents to relocate. Despite the activity, officials state that Grindavík is not in immediate danger.
