Illegal cosmetics from Pakistan seized in Pimpri-Chinchwad
Last year, a large stock of illegal cosmetics was seized in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Maharashtra. These products were imported from Lahore, Pakistan, by a company called Horik Chemistry. The sellers did not have the required import-export license, said FDA minister Narhari Jhirwal. During an assembly session, Jhirwal explained the seriousness of the situation. He responded to questions from BJP MLA Bhimrao Tapkir, who highlighted the health risks of unregulated beauty products. Tapkir noted that a stock worth ₹20.72 lakh was also seized in Dhayari from Karnataka and Telangana. Tapkir raised concerns about how the unapproved products reached Maharashtra. He asked about the FDA's role in approving the transportation of these cosmetics. He also requested information on FDA-approved testing laboratories and the number of cosmetic manufacturers in Pune. In response, Jhirwal acknowledged the issues raised. He assured that an investigation is ongoing to determine how the illegal stock entered India. Legal action will be taken against those responsible before the assembly session ends. Regarding the products from Dhayari, Jhirwal clarified that while vendors had permission to sell cosmetics, the items from Karnataka and Telangana did not have proper approvals. Consumers often buy beauty products without knowing their safety or testing status. Jhirwal promised that further action would be taken against illegal vendors in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
