Imran Khan's party halts Islamabad protest after violent crackdown
Imran Khan's party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has suspended its protest in Islamabad following a violent crackdown by authorities that resulted in at least four deaths and over 50 injuries. The party described the crackdown as a "massacre" and reported that around 450 protesters were arrested. The protest, which began on November 24, aimed to demand Khan's release from jail. PTI leaders Bushra Bibi and Ali Amin Gandapur were initially leading the march but were later reported to be in Mansehra, away from the protests. Authorities have since reopened roads and cleared major areas affected by the protests. Life in Islamabad is returning to normal as the government has lifted restrictions and reopened motorways. The Pakistan stock exchange also rebounded, gaining over 3,000 points after a significant drop earlier in the week.
