India and Australia strengthen clean energy ties and pursue economic pact at G20 summit
India and Australia have signed a renewable energy agreement and are pursuing a broader economic cooperation pact. Prime Ministers Modi and Albanese announced these developments during their meeting at the G20 summit, aiming to enhance ties in defense, technology, and trade. The new Renewable Energy Partnership will focus on solar energy, green hydrogen, and energy storage. Both leaders expressed commitment to a Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement to maximize bilateral trade, which has already increased by 40% since the Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement was signed in 2022. Modi and Albanese also discussed regional security and the importance of dialogue to resolve global tensions. They emphasized cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, particularly in light of concerns over China's military activities, and reiterated their commitment to the Quad alliance.
