India and Bhutan collaborate on election management training
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi met with Ugyen Chewang, the Election Commissioner of Bhutan, in New Delhi. This meeting was part of a training program on election administration for Bhutanese officials. The training program lasts two weeks and is taking place at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM). It runs from March 10 to March 21 and involves 40 senior and mid-level officers from Bhutan. The training covers many important topics, including voter registration, election planning, and financial regulations for political parties. Sessions also address poll day preparations, voter education, and the use of technology in elections. Experts in the field, including Chief Electoral Officers and independent trainers, lead the sessions. The program also includes training on leadership skills. International training like this is a common initiative by IIIDEM, which operates under the Election Commission of India.
