India and China enhance diplomatic relations in Beijing
India and China held diplomatic talks in Beijing on March 25, 2025. This was part of ongoing discussions focusing on border affairs. The talks are preparing for a meeting between their Special Representatives later this year. During the meeting, officials from both countries discussed the resumption of cooperation across their borders. This includes plans related to trans-border rivers and the Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra, a significant pilgrimage route. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs emphasized the importance of maintaining peace at the border to strengthen overall relations. Recently, Chinese officials expressed approval of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comments about achieving normalcy at the border. This followed his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Both leaders have expressed a desire to restore relations to how they were before 2020, without letting differences escalate into disputes. Back in January 2025, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visited China for discussions on future relations. He met with several Chinese leaders, including Foreign Minister Wang Yi. In March, Mr. Wang noted that India-China relations had made "positive strides," especially after resolving a long military standoff in the eastern Ladakh region.
