India clarifies stance on BRICS currency after Trump's tariff threat
India's central bank governor, Shaktikanta Das, stated that India is not aiming for de-dollarization and has not made any decisions regarding a BRICS currency. This follows President-elect Donald Trump's threat of 100% tariffs on BRICS nations if they attempt to replace the U.S. dollar. The BRICS group, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has discussed creating an alternative currency for trade. However, Trump warned that any such move would lead to heavy tariffs on imports from these countries. Trump's comments were made on his social media platform, where he emphasized that the U.S. dollar remains dominant in international trade. He stated that countries pursuing a BRICS currency should expect severe consequences.
