India commissions three naval warships as PM Modi highlights maritime power growth

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India is becoming a major maritime power during the commissioning of three naval warships: INS Surat, INS Nilgiri, and INS Vaghsheer. This marks the first time a destroyer, frigate, and submarine were commissioned together. All three vessels are part of India's 'Made in India' initiative. Modi highlighted India's commitment to a secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific region and its role as a reliable global partner in maritime security. In the past decade, India has inducted 33 ships and seven submarines into its Navy. The country's defense production has surpassed Rs 1.25 lakh crore, with equipment exported to over 100 countries.
