India launches new submarine and warships to boost naval security in Indian Ocean

India's navy has launched a new submarine, destroyer, and frigate from a state-run shipyard in Mumbai. This move aims to enhance maritime security in the Indian Ocean, where China's naval presence is increasing. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the shift in focus from the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean, emphasizing the need for a stronger navy. The new INS Vagsheer submarine is part of India's efforts to modernize its fleet. India currently operates 16 submarines and is expected to finalize a deal for three more Scorpene submarines soon. The navy's expansion includes the commissioning of its first home-built aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, in 2022.
