India may face electricity crisis in May, June 2025
India is facing a potential electricity crisis during the summer months of May and June 2025, according to a report from the National Load Dispatch Centre. High temperatures are expected to increase electricity demand, creating a gap of 15-20 gigawatts between supply and demand. The report indicates that peak demand may coincide with fluctuations in renewable energy generation, particularly solar power. This could lead to widespread load-shedding if not addressed. May is anticipated to be the most challenging month. To manage the situation, the Central Electricity Authority has suggested integrating energy storage systems to store excess solar energy. Electricity demand is projected to reach a record 270 gigawatts this summer, surpassing last year's peak of 250 gigawatts.
