India, New Zealand strengthen defense ties for Indo-Pacific

India and New Zealand have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen their defense cooperation. This move aims to boost collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region. Navy chiefs from both countries have met to discuss ways to improve naval ties and maritime cooperation. Indian Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi and New Zealand’s Rear Admiral Garin Golding highlighted joint training initiatives during their discussions. Golding is on a six-day visit to India, which officials say marks a significant step in their bilateral defense relations. He is also scheduled to meet with India's Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, as well as leaders from the Army and Indian Air Force. During his visit, Rear Admiral Golding will tour the Western Naval Command in Mumbai. He will meet with officers and sailors and board the indigenous destroyer INS Surat to explore future collaboration in ship maintenance and technology.
