India opens first glass bridge in Kanyakumari connecting key monuments
A new glass bridge was inaugurated in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, connecting the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and the Thiruvalluvar statue. This 77-meter-long and 10-meter-wide bridge is claimed to be the first of its kind in India. The bridge offers visitors views of the sea and allows for quicker access between the two monuments, replacing the previous ferry service. It is designed to withstand the local climate. The inauguration was attended by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, who announced that the last week of December will now be celebrated as "Thirukkural week." The project has sparked political debate, with opposition leaders claiming it was initiated during a previous administration.
