India rejects COP29 climate finance deal, calls $300 billion pledge inadequate
India has rejected the climate finance deal at COP29, calling the $300 billion pledge by 2035 insufficient. Indian negotiator Chandni Raina criticized developed nations for shifting financial responsibilities and failing to uphold equity principles. This stance resonated with other developing countries. During the final plenary, Raina highlighted gaps in the agreement, which she described as a "hollow gesture" given the need for over $1.3 trillion in climate finance by 2030. Other nations, including Bolivia and Nigeria, echoed her concerns about the lack of binding commitments and meaningful action. The Least Developed Countries group labeled the outcome a betrayal, stating it lacked an ambitious climate finance goal and concrete plans to address climate change. They expressed disappointment over the failure to support vulnerable communities effectively.
