India rejects $300 billion climate finance package as inadequate for developing nations
India has rejected a new climate finance package of $300 billion annually by 2035, calling it "too little and too distant." This amount falls short of the $1.3 trillion that developing nations have been demanding for climate action. Chandni Raina, representing India, expressed disappointment over the process, stating that they were not allowed to speak before the deal was adopted. She emphasized that the proposed funding does not meet the needs of developing countries. Other nations, including Nigeria, Malawi, and Bolivia, supported India's stance, criticizing the package as inadequate. The new goal replaces a previous $100 billion commitment made in 2009 and aims to mobilize funds from various sources.
