IndiaAI Mission receives 120 new AI model proposals

The IndiaAI Mission has received a large number of applications for developing AI models. In its second round, 120 proposals were submitted, which is twice as many as the first round. This brings the total number of proposals to 187. The second round closed on March 15. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) plans to approve some of these applications by the end of the month. A senior official commented on the growing interest from both Indian and international firms. Many companies aim to start operations in India to develop government-supported AI models. Some proposals come from startups based in places like Singapore and San Francisco. Even students from institutions such as Stanford University have submitted applications. IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed optimism, stating that India should have three foundational AI models by the end of this year. The total funding for this project is ₹1,500 crore. In the first month, IndiaAI Mission received 67 proposals, showcasing interest from various established startups and new academic teams.
