Indian army surgeons restore vision for 29 Nepal nationals
A team of Indian army eye surgeons restored the vision of 29 people from Nepal during a four-day eye camp at the 158 Base Hospital near Bagdogra airport. They performed a total of 354 eye surgeries, focusing mainly on cataracts and glaucoma. The group included experienced ophthalmologists from Delhi and Lucknow. They treated patients from various regions, including Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, and Nepal. Notably, 17 of the Nepal nationals came from Dharan in the Sunsari district. Brigadier Sanjay Mishra led the team, stating that more than 1,700 patients were seen during the camp. He mentioned that over 20 percent of them required surgery for different eye conditions. The camp was part of an effort to strengthen friendly relations with Nepal. One patient, Lucas Toppo, who is 97 years old, also had his vision restored. The surgical team included several army doctors who worked together to help the patients. This camp follows similar successful events in Dehradun and Jaipur earlier in the year. The West Bengal governor, C. V. Ananda Bose, had requested that the eye camp be held, as there are many ex-servicemen in the area who could benefit from such services.
