Indian H-1B and Green Card holders face deportation
Indian H-1B visa and Green Card holders are facing deportation fears due to recent actions by U.S. immigration authorities. This has raised concerns among Indian professionals living in the U.S., especially with policies linked to the Trump administration. Reports show that individuals with these visas are being questioned more often by immigration officials. One notable case involves Badar Khan Suri, a Georgetown University student from India. He was detained by federal agents outside his home in Virginia. The agents claimed that his student visa had been revoked. Suri is now in deportation proceedings due to accusations of threatening U.S. foreign policy. His lawyer argues that these actions are aimed at Suri because of his wife’s Palestinian American heritage. A federal judge has currently blocked his deportation while they review the case. Another case is Ranjani Srinivasan, an Indian scholar at Columbia University. Her visa was revoked after she was linked to pro-Palestinian protests on campus. Immigration officials attempted to detain her at her home but were denied entry by her roommate. Srinivasan left the U.S. for Canada the same night. The Department of Homeland Security accused her of advocating for “violence and terrorism,” claiming she did not disclose past court issues related to protests. These incidents highlight the heightened scrutiny and fear among Indian professionals regarding their legal status in the U.S.
