Indian Hills softball sweeps Iowa Western in Council Bluffs
The Indian Hills softball team achieved a strong start in their regional championship race by sweeping Iowa Western in Council Bluffs. The Warriors won both games of a doubleheader, starting with a narrow 5-4 victory, followed by a 4-3 win in extra innings. This marks the team's fifth win in their last six games. In game one, Indian Hills took the lead with a three-run sixth inning. Freshman Cassandra Benberg contributed with a two-run single, and Courtney Locke added a sacrifice fly. The Warriors' pitcher, Ashlynn Sheets, excelled by allowing only one run over six innings. She also helped secure the win with a critical double play in the seventh inning. The second game began with Iowa Western scoring early, but Indian Hills fought back. Ava Smith hit a two-run home run to tie the game at 2-2. The game remained competitive, with both teams exchanging leads until Mary-Paige Withers hit a crucial home run in the eighth inning. This gave the Warriors a 4-3 lead, which they held onto with strong pitching from sophomore Jordyn Beck. With the wins, Indian Hills improved to 12-12 overall and 2-0 in ICCAC play. Smith continues to shine, currently leading the team with a .471 batting average. The Warriors will look to maintain this momentum in their upcoming games.
