Indian man detained in Qatar during investigation
An Indian man named Amit Gupta has been detained by Qatari authorities. The Indian embassy in Qatar is aware of the situation and is providing assistance. Gupta, who works for the IT company Tech Mahindra, was taken into custody on January 1. His family has been in contact with officials regarding his case. Gupta's mother, Pushpa Gupta, mentioned that she had traveled to Qatar to meet with the Indian ambassador. She said that the ambassador informed her that there has been no positive progress in her son's case. The embassy is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with Gupta’s lawyer and family. Gupta has been living and working in Qatar for about ten years. His parents tried to visit him while they were in Qatar but were unable to meet him. This case is not the first involving Indians detained in Qatar. In 2022, eight former Indian Navy personnel were detained and later sentenced to death, but were released in February 2024 following a commutation by a Qatari court.
