Indian Navy monitors activities in Indian Ocean Region

Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, the chief of the Indian Navy, stated that the navy is closely monitoring activities in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). He emphasized that they are aware of the movements, intentions, and operations of various vessels, particularly amid increasing Chinese naval activity. During his talk at the Raisina Dialogue-2025, Admiral Tripathi highlighted that China aims to enhance its influence in the region. This includes establishing military bases and making territorial claims, which raises global concerns about China's motives. He stressed the importance of maintaining peace in the IOR to support free trade. The Navy is vigilant about dual-role vessels that may pose as civilian ships while conducting military or espionage activities. Admiral Tripathi assured that the Indian Navy is actively monitoring these operations and has taken action when necessary. He noted that India seeks to promote a free and inclusive order in the IOR and Indo-Pacific that respects sovereignty. Through collaboration with international partners like the US, Japan, Australia, and the Philippines, India aims to enhance maritime security collectively. Admiral Tripathi addressed illegal fishing practices in the region, linking them to China's activities. He emphasized the need for continuous vigilance in military, geopolitical, and technological spheres to remain prepared for future challenges. The navy strives to learn from global partners and implement best practices in their operations.
