Indian officials skip Pakistan's National Day in New Delhi
Indian officials did not attend Pakistan's national day celebrations, highlighting ongoing tensions between the two nations. The reception took place in New Delhi on March 21, 2025, but it is unclear if India was invited. Pakistani Charge d'Affaires Saad Ahmad Warraich spoke at the event, emphasizing the potential for improved relations. He suggested that mutual understanding and addressing shared issues, like the Kashmir conflict, are key to fostering a new era of friendship. His comments followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks that previous peace efforts with Pakistan have been met with hostility. India has consistently expressed its desire for normal relations with Pakistan. However, it insists that Pakistan must create an environment free from terrorism and hostility. Furthermore, India maintains that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of its territory. Warraich noted that Pakistan seeks friendly relations based on respect and cooperation. He called for collaborative solutions and highlighted the importance of diplomacy. He also referenced the festival of Navroz, symbolizing hope and renewal. Relations between India and Pakistan have been strained since 2019, following a terrorist attack and India's subsequent military response. Diplomatic ties further diminished after India revoked certain special powers for Jammu and Kashmir. Since then, structured talks between the countries have ceased, although both engage in discussions at international forums.
