₹250 crore corruption in NREGS uncovered in Andhra Pradesh
In Andhra Pradesh, Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan announced over ₹250 crore in corruption related to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme from 2019 to 2024. Currently, only ₹71 crore is being recovered, with ₹179 crore still unaccounted for. Kalyan attributed the misappropriation to deep-rooted collusion among officials. He emphasized the government's commitment to uncovering the full extent of the scam, which has affected many workers relying on the scheme. A wage monitoring cell has been established to oversee payments to workers. Kalyan noted that any changes to daily wages or mandays would be decided by the Central government, which is reviewing requests from various states.
