Indian scholar self-deports after US visa revoked
Ranjani Srinivasan, an Indian doctoral student at Columbia University, has self-deported after the U.S. revoked her visa. The visa was canceled due to allegations of supporting Hamas, a designated terrorist organization. Srinivasan used the CBP Home App to facilitate her departure on March 11, 2025. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security confirmed the visa revocation occurred on March 5, 2025. Srinivasan was pursuing a degree in Urban Planning and has an extensive academic background, including degrees from Harvard and CEPT University. Her research focused on land-labor relations in India.
