Indian student self-deported after visa revoked for activism
Ranjani Srinivasan, an Indian doctoral student at Columbia University, self-deported from the US after her visa was revoked for alleged support of Hamas. The US Department of Homeland Security cited security concerns for the visa cancellation. Srinivasan used the CBP Home App to leave the US on March 11, 2025, following the revocation on March 5. This action reflects increased scrutiny on foreign students involved in pro-Palestinian activism. Srinivasan, a Fulbright scholar, was pursuing a Ph.D. in Urban Planning. She has an extensive academic background, including degrees from Harvard and Columbia, and her research focuses on land-labour relations in India.
