Indian student self-deports after US visa revocation

Ranjani Srinivasan, an Indian student at Columbia University, self-deported after her visa was revoked due to security concerns linked to her participation in pro-Palestinian protests. The U.S. Department of State revoked her visa on March 5, 2025. Srinivasan was accused of supporting violence and terrorism, specifically related to Hamas. She used the newly launched CBP Home app to voluntarily self-deport on March 11, 2025. The CBP Home app allows undocumented immigrants to declare their intent to leave the U.S. and access other services. The app was introduced amid a crackdown on illegal immigration by the Trump administration.
