Indiana hires Darian DeVries, boosting Big Ten basketball
Darian DeVries has been hired as the new head coach for the Indiana basketball team. He spent 12 years as an assistant under Dana Altman at Creighton. Most recently, DeVries was the head coach at Drake for six seasons and coached West Virginia this past year. Dana Altman spoke highly of DeVries, saying he is a talented and energetic coach. Altman believes DeVries will be great for Indiana. He mentioned that DeVries has a good understanding of basketball and how to relate to players. DeVries has a strong record of 168 wins and 69 losses as a head coach, with a 19-13 record this season at West Virginia. He takes over an Indiana team that also finished 19-13 and narrowly missed making the NCAA Tournament. Another former assistant of Altman, Chris Crutchfield, recently led Omaha to the NCAA Tournament, showcasing Altman's influence in college basketball.
