India's defense procurement process hinders technology adoption

India's Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, expressed worries about the slow process of defence procurement on Wednesday. He said that these delays hinder the military's ability to adopt new technologies quickly. His comments were made during the Raisina Dialogue 2025, a conference focusing on global issues. General Chauhan highlighted that acquiring military equipment can take years due to India's procurement rules. He noted that the government is trying to speed up these processes, declaring 2025 as the "year of reforms." This initiative aims to simplify weapon-buying methods and create integrated commands for better military resource management. The general emphasized the need for India to adopt new technologies more rapidly. He warned that allowing technological gaps with adversaries could be dangerous. Military leaders, including the Chief of Air Staff, AP Singh, have echoed these concerns, stressing that delays in technology can pose serious risks. They have also pointed to China's advancements in military technology as a factor that India must urgently address. During previous discussions, Singh mentioned that China outpaces India in technology and production capabilities. He called for increased domestic manufacturing to ensure the military is prepared for potential conflicts.
