India's foreign minister says BRICS not seeking to weaken US dollar
India's foreign minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, stated that BRICS countries do not aim to weaken the US Dollar. His comments were made during an event in Doha, Qatar. This statement follows a warning from U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, who threatened 100% tariffs on BRICS nations if they pursue a common currency to challenge the dollar. The BRICS alliance includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the UAE. The US dollar remains dominant in global trade, making up about 58% of foreign exchange reserves.
