India's navy launches new submarine and warships to boost Indian Ocean security
India's navy launched a submarine, a destroyer, and a frigate on Wednesday to enhance security in the Indian Ocean, where 95% of its trade occurs. This move responds to increasing Chinese naval activity in the region. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the shift in focus from the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean, emphasizing India's commitment to strengthening its naval capabilities. The new submarine, INS Vagsheer, is part of a project to modernize India's aging fleet. India plans to finalize a deal for three more Scorpene submarines during Prime Minister Modi's upcoming visit to France. The navy currently operates 16 submarines and aims to bolster its defense manufacturing and maritime security.
