India's sugar production declines 16% this season
India's sugar production has dropped by 16.13% to 23.71 million tonnes in the 2024-25 season, leading to concerns from the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF) about production estimates. The government based its policies on an initial projection of 33.3 million tonnes, but actual output has consistently fallen short. Major sugar-producing states like Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh have reported significant declines in production due to various agricultural challenges. The NFCSF now estimates total sugar output for the season will be 25.9 million tonnes, down from 31.9 million tonnes last year. Despite current difficulties, NFCSF officials are hopeful for improved conditions in the next season.
