Infant dies in hospital; respiratory issues cited
A six-month-old boy living at the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare died at SAT Hospital on Saturday. The child had been unwell and had previous hospital visits due to his health issues. According to police, a post-mortem showed signs of pneumonia. G.L. Arun Gopi, the council's general secretary, said the infant began experiencing respiratory problems early on Saturday morning and was taken to the hospital for treatment. He had been admitted to SAT Hospital before, from February 22 to March 7, for similar issues. At the care facility, he was assigned a full-time caretaker and kept isolated from other children. On Saturday, when he began to show symptoms again, he was monitored closely. After crying during his feeding time, he was moved to the ICU. Efforts to provide him with ventilator support were made, but he unfortunately passed away. This tragedy follows another recent death of a resident at the council, who died from fever about a month ago.
