Ingebrigtsen aims for 1,500m world title this season
Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the Norwegian middle-distance runner, aims to win his first world title in the 1,500 meters at both the indoor and outdoor championships this year. He arrived in Nanjing for the world indoor championships, which will take place next week, and he plans to return to Japan in September for the outdoor event in Tokyo, where he previously won Olympic gold in 2021. Ingebrigtsen expressed his determination, stating that the 1,500 meters is his favorite event and his primary focus for the season. He achieved personal bests recently and believes he can continue to improve. Previously, he won silver at the indoor world championships in 2022 but missed last year's competition due to an injury. The 24-year-old has faced tough competition in past outdoor world championships, finishing second in both 2022 and 2023. Although he did not defend his 1,500 meters title at the Paris Olympics last year, Ingebrigtsen did win gold in the 5,000 meters. This year, he has shown strong form indoors, breaking world records for the mile and 1,500 meters in February and claiming a double victory at the European Championships earlier this month. He feels confident and believes he is improving, working hard toward his goals. In Nanjing, Ingebrigtsen will attempt a challenging double of the 1,500 and 3,000 meters, a feat achieved only once before. He thrives in competitive environments, stating that such challenges keep him dedicated to his training. Looking ahead, while he aims for success on the track, he also has aspirations to eventually tackle longer distances. For now, his focus remains on performing his best in the upcoming championships.
