Inmate hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after assault at Racine County Jail

A 35-year-old inmate at Racine County Jail is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being attacked by another inmate on December 31. The assault occurred in a shared dayroom and lasted less than a minute. A corrections officer found the injured inmate during a safety check. The inmate who attacked has been identified and is now separated from others. The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department is conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident. All emergency buttons in the cells were functional but were not used by witnesses.
