Intern attacked at Sivaganga Government Medical College Hospital
Interns at Sivaganga Government Medical College Hospital went on strike on Tuesday. They protested after one of their colleagues was attacked on Monday night. The Compulsory Rotating Medical Intern (CRMI) was returning to her hostel when an unknown man tried to silence her with cloth. Luckily, the attacker ran away when a relative of hospital staff approached on a bike. The intern was not hurt and was escorted back to her hostel. On Tuesday morning, her fellow interns demanded safety improvements on campus and immediate action against the attacker. Superintendent of Police Ashish Rawat met with the interns and promised to take action. The police have opened an investigation into the incident. Protesters noted that the campus's lights and CCTV cameras were not working, raising concerns about safety. Dean Sathyabama confirmed that the police were informed and said the intern was unharmed. She emphasized the need for better safety measures for doctors and students at the hospital.
