A blizzard caused part of Interstate 29 (I-29) to close on Wednesday, March 19. The storm knocked down powerlines near the Port Neal exit, located on the south side of Sioux City, Iowa. Traffic was heavy as emergency crews worked to fix the damage. The Iowa Department of Transportation announced at about 7:30 PM CDT that I-29 had reopened from Sergeant Bluff to Missouri Valley. The highway had to be closed earlier due to dangerous driving conditions and the fallen powerlines. However, the interchange at Port Neal, exit 135, will stay closed overnight. Crews need more time to clear the area of downed powerlines. The National Weather Service also issued a hazardous weather advisory. They warned that "patchy blowing snow remains possible" in the region.
