Investigation into Margao labour trafficking case intensifies

Police are investigating a labour trafficking case in Margao. They arrested Shabrish Manjrekar, a 32-year-old from Borda, on Thursday. Manjrekar ran an unlicensed placement agency called SM Home Care Services in Verna. His business license expired in 2020, but he continued to operate it without permission. A victim from Karnataka provided her statement to the court on Friday. This is part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities also learned that Manjrekar had hired a manager in May 2024. She has been asked to come in for questioning. During a raid at Manjrekar's office in Verna, police found expired business documents. They also collected Aadhaar information from several domestic workers. The court has ordered that Manjrekar remain in police custody until March 24.
