IPL introduces new ball change rule for second innings
The IPL 2025 has introduced several new rules, generating interest among fans and players. Among these, a significant change allows the team bowling second to request a new ball after the 10th over. This change aims to address issues caused by dew during evening matches. According to the new rule, the bowling captain can ask for a ball change even if there is no visible dew. Umpires must replace the ball with one in similar condition, and the bowling team cannot choose the replacement. Umpires can also change the ball before the 10th over if it is too wet or damaged. This rule was first used during a match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Monday. In the 13th over, the umpires changed the ball after LSG’s M Siddharth bowled, allowing him to clean bowl Tristan Stubbs shortly after. In this thrilling match, DC made a remarkable comeback to chase down 210 runs. After being in a tight spot at 65/5, Ashutosh Sharma and Mohit Sharma formed a key partnership. With the game on the line, Ashutosh hit a crucial six, leading DC to victory with three balls remaining. Their successful run-chase is now the highest partnership in IPL history for a one-wicket win, according to Wisden.
